Raspberry Patch

Four varieties of raspberries—Heritage, Nova, Pathfinder, and Polana—have been planted in the Hendrick Foundation Garden raspberry patch and are ready for harvesting at varying times throughout the summer. Everyone is encouraged to pick berries when at their peak.

Heritage

The Heritage everbearing red raspberry bushes produce a moderate yield in July and a heavy yield in September. They are a self-fertile, dark red raspberry that spreads fast and are a favourite for their firmness and fruit size.

Nova

The Nova raspberry bushes are almost thornless and produce a mid-season large firm fruit. The bright red medium-sized berries have a nice, but tart, flavour and are perfect for home-made jam and preserves. They are also quite delicious eaten right off the plant!

Pathfinder

The Pathfinder is a very tasty variety, and it’s the nly one in the Foundation Garden raspberry patch that will produce fruit in August. It is one of the most productive and hardy raspberries. It suckers easily so will quickly produce smaller plants on which more fruit will grow to fill the space in which it is planted.

Polana

Polana raspberries have a very abundant early season production. Its berries are large, glossy red and deliver a spicy taste. These bushes produce fruit up to three weeks earlier than the Heritage and is the best bet for areas where early fall frost is a concern. Polana is noted for its fruit-laden canes and compact, manageable size.
