Chicken Coop

A beloved community-led initiative, the Hendrick Foundation Chicken Coop has been delighting neighbourhood kids for several years now.

Every spring, the Chicken Coop committee organizes for the arrival of a handful of hens from Netherleigh Farm, preparing their beautiful barn-red coop in the Hendrick Foundation Garden. The committee also ensures that a whole group of volunteer families are scheduled for the care of these hens from spring through the end of fall.

Indicating comfort in their surroundings, the hens each lay an egg a day on average, a bounty thoroughly enjoyed by the volunteers caring for them. Most evenings, a steady flow of parents and their children can be seen visiting the coop for what seems like a pleasant ritual before bedtime for the children and the chickens alike.
