Community Garden
The Hendrick Farm Community Garden is a volunteer-run initiative located on Hendrick Foundation land. A popular gathering spot for gardeners and families, the community garden project has been a great success since its inception in 2021. Thanks to the dedication of a passionate volunteer team, it has grown from 26 plots in its first season to over 70 plots the last few seasons. Each garden plot measures approximately 11 feet by 11 feet, and water is available on-site. With financial support from the Foundation, the Community Garden Committee also recently installed a shared garden shed that will be stocked with tools and equipment for members' use.
The Community Garden Committee has established a set of rules to ensure that all members have the opportunity to grow fresh, healthy food and flowers in a thriving garden. These rules also aim to create a sense of community and be a good neighbour to the surrounding community.
To become a member, applicants must pay a membership fee and accept the rules governing the Hendrick Farm Community Garden. Garden plots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and depend on demand. Members are responsible for maintaining their own plots, including providing their own seeds, plants, organic fertilizer, and any tools not provided from the Garden Committee or Members collectively. Members will garden organically, and use of compost and organic mulch is acceptable.
The Hendrick Farm Community Garden is a thriving initiative, with a dedicated team of volunteers, welcoming members, and promising opportunities for growth and community building.
